The AI Power Grid Primer
The leaders and most relevant companies powering the AI future.
Everyone is fixated on the chipmakers and datacenter providers but the true bottleneck lies in the power grid.
AI is a massive physical load on global infrastructure. Analysts project that U.S. data center power demand will nearly triple by 2030 driven by the 24/7 power needs of training AI models and running massive data centers. This surge is creating a supply/demand issue that is already straining grids, allocating all available connection capacity, and pushing utility companies to scramble for new reliable power sources.
This dynamic has reset the landscape for energy and infrastructure stocks. Whether it’s Constellation Energy, Bloom Energy, GE Vernova, or a wide array of others I’m going to discuss below, companies that possess or can rapidly deliver reliable, high density power have seen their value propositions skyrocket. The new scarcity is turning these once boring and sleepy utilities and industrial suppliers into high growth critical players in the AI race.
Side note… I want to let you all know I’ve already started working on my 2026 year ahead preview. Last year’s was a huge success with the vast majority of themes and many names outperforming the market by a wide margin. The 2026 preview will be posted exclusively here on Substack and as we get closer to the end of 2025, I’ll provide a full recap of how the 2025 preview performed. A few picks included OKLO, KTOS, NBIS, TEM, EOSE, FSLR, and more. If you want to review the 2025 preview, you can find it here. The 2026 preview will be much more in depth now that I finally have a space where I can break everything down properly.
In this article I’m going to discuss the 20 key companies across the energy ecosystem and their roles as AI Energy Players. I’ll also highlight which names I personally own. I believe this is going to be one of the biggest themes over the next decade and it’s useful to have every major player in one place. Consider this the AI energy playbook… a reference you can use when evaluating potential positions in this rapidly emerging sector.
Let’s get into it.
