Is the market about to fall off a cliff?
If you’ve spent any time on social media this weekend, you’d think so. Overwhelming sentiment is the most bearish it’s been in a long time despite the indices being just a few percent off all time highs.
This comes after many growth stocks have already corrected 50%, not before.
Market psychology works in fascinating ways. Sentiment rarely leads price, instead it simply reacts to it. Only once the damage has already been done does the big picture narrative start to shift. I didn’t see many people discussing the death of software or the end of FAANG until after the price action had already started to roll over.
That’s usually how it works. Optimism peaks near the highs because recent price action reinforces confidence and emphasizes that the bull thesis is correct. As prices fall, confidence erode and narratives change. By the time the consensus view turns decisively bearish, a large portion of the move has often already taken place.
To put into perspective how bad sentiment has become, this past week a small $20M market cap company that manufacturers karaoke machines put out a white paper discussing how their AI boosted freight volumes by over 300% without hiring more drivers. That sent the stock up hundreds of percent and as a result, multi billion dollar transportation companies saw their stocks get crushed.
Could the bull market really be over all because a few market leading stocks are pulling back…?
In the remainder of this article I’m going to discuss that along with a hidden Anthropic winner that has a strong narrative and technical setup, an under discussed energy name that just broke out alongside because of AI and data center commentary, the two smaller cap AI and semiconductor stocks that continue to fly under the radar despite major headlines this week, a 2020 hero stock that had a major episodic pivot and thesis changing news, the strongest sectors and the best stocks within those sectors, my favorite charts and setups, the broader market, and more.
